Schlecht Welcomes Randy Sundberg
After running his own construction business for 20 years, Randy Sundberg has made the transition from employer to employee. In February 2007, the former owner of Sundberg Construction was hired by Schlecht Construction of Kelso, Washington, as an estimator and project manager.
“I decided it was time to make a change,” Sundberg said. “I’ve know Larry Schlecht (president of Schlecht Construction) for many years and have a lot of respect for him and the company. They have a reputation for doing quality work and providing great customer service.”
Sundberg Construction focused on residential custom homes and remodels. At Schlecht, Sundberg will deal with commercial and light-industrial projects. “I have a good understanding of the local community and know most of the suppliers,” he said. “But it will take some time and effort for me to learn what I need to know about commercial and light-industrial construction.”
Jessica Whitten, business manager at Schlecht Construction, said Sundberg will begin work immediately on projects in Clark and Cowlitz counties, including Peri-Formworks in Woodland and Catlin Investment Group’s new facility in Kelso.
“Randy is a perfect fit for our business,” Whitten said. “He operated a very successful construction company for many years, and he has an excellent reputation in the area.”
Sundberg graduated from Mark Morris High School in 1972. He attended Lower Columbia College and Pacific Lutheran University, completing a bachelor’s degree in social work in 1976. After serving as youth director at Calvary Community Church in Longview for three years, he enrolled in the carpenters’ apprentice program. He started Sundberg Construction in 1986. He was a member of the Lower Columbia Contractors Association for nearly two decades and served terms as a board member and as the organization’s president.
Larry Schlecht noted that recent economic growth in Southwest Washington has led Schlecht Construction to add staff. “All signs point toward continued growth,” he said. “We want to be on the cutting edge of development and construction in this area, and Randy’s hiring is a step toward achieving that.” |
